Producer, Writer | Unreal Engine 4

November 2019 - July 2020

Kidgilantes is a local couch co-op game centered around 2 children trying to rescue several animals from a zoo. There are guards and obstacles to get by to avoid having the kids be put in time out. The best way to sneak by guards is stacking, kids can get together and stand on each other’s shoulders. Here, they’ll take on a new adult disguise to reach all new heights.

The game was created during my senior capstone for my bachelor’s at University of California, Santa Cruz. We had a total of 15 students working on every corner of this project, where I worked as the Producer. My role included production planning, organizing and attending every meeting, communicating with professors about issues and progress, staying on top of all the moving parts of the project, and helping connect my team members with the tools or other members they needed to be successful. In addition to this, I was the sole writer for the game. I wrote all of the promotional materials, tutorials, and documentation for the game.

When I pitched this game, I emphasized the importance of my team and our well-being. I wanted to create a game with a small scope to allow for issues such as burnout or new technology. This proved to be perfect when mid-year we were transitioned to remote learning, and suddenly my entire team was working at a smaller capacity than they’d originally anticipated. I chose to cut down on our overall features and number of levels, because I was really hoping to avoid crunch.

In the end, we created a well-polished game that we were all very proud of.
